Elon Musk May Be Trying to Join Trump’s Administration

Donald Trump and Elon Musk are close partners, with the two backing each other up and offering support over key issues, and now it looks like they might become linked even closer.
Musk may be looking to be a part of Trump’s presidency, if Trump is elected to the office in November. Musk has been outspoken on his love for Trump and maybe eyeing a spot in his cabinet. Musk has shown up at a number of Trump rallies and town hall meetings, and he has been very active in attacking Democratic politicians.
Musk has repeatedly used his X account to attack Vice President Kamala Harris as well as her media supporters. If Trump is elected, it may mean tax breaks for Tesla or for billionaires like him. The Democratic Party has constantly floated the idea of further taxes on the rich, with Harris and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez both calling for additional taxes to be levied against higher income brackets.
It makes sense that Musk would support a Republican candidate, but he may now be looking for a position in Trump’s administration.
What Would Musk Do?
Many think that Musk would potentially be given the position of chief government auditor for what Musk calls the Department of Government Efficiency. Trump and Musk both talk supportively about one another, with Trump saying that he respects Musk a lot. Trump has already made a name for himself as someone who brings his friends into positions of power when President. That is what he did during his last term, and there is every reason to think he will do the same thing this term.
Trump and Musk share similar worldviews and similar views about the United States. “Like me,” Trump said of Musk, “he knows this country is in trouble.” It makes sense to bring someone on board as a cabinet member who shares similar goals and has a similar take on life and politics, especially when that someone is a person of tremendous clout and influence like Elon Musk. He will be able to get things done because he would have a lot of support behind him.
Trump has also said that he would create a commission for monitoring government spending and would appoint Musk as its head. This was part of a discussion they had together that was aired as a webchat, and it was an idea that Musk came up with. The result of such a commission would, in Trumps’ words, result in “recommendations for drastic reforms.”
If Trump does go through with this idea, that would put Musk in a position of political power- an idea that scares many people but that excites Musk’s many supporters.
