Dynacare Baby Powder Recalled For Asbestos Contamination Risk

Dynarex Corp. is recalling selected Dynacare Baby Powder, citing the potential to be contaminated with asbestos, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Asbestos, a naturally occurring mineral often found near talc, an ingredient in many cosmetic products, is a known carcinogen. There is a chance that the talc may get contaminated with asbestos if talc mining sites are not selected carefully or steps taken to purify the talc ore sufficiently.

Exposure to asbestos is known to cause lung cancer, mesothelioma, ovarian cancer, and laryngeal cancer, and it is linked to more than 40,000 deaths in the U.S. each year.

In March, after more than three decades of inadequate protections, the Environmental Protection Agency banned ongoing uses of asbestos in the United States.

Dynarex’s recall involves 62 cases of item number 4875, Dynacare Baby Powder, Batch Number B 051. The 4875 Baby Powder is packaged in 14 oz. plastic bottles, 24 bottles to a case with batch/lot number B051, and Expiration Date 2026/12/28.

The product was sent to distributors on or after March 11, 2024, by direct delivery in various states of AL, AR, CO, IL, KY, NC, NJ, PA, TN, FL, WA, and WI, and also sold online on Amazon.

The recall was initiated after a routine sampling program by the FDA revealed that the finished products contained asbestos.

However, there have been no illnesses or adverse events reported to date.

The distribution of the product has been ceased as the investigation is proceeding to determine the cause of the contamination of the talc.

Consumers who have purchased Dynacare Baby Powder, Batch Number B 051, are urged to discontinue use immediately and return it for a full refund.
