Stocks Expected to Climb Today
After a volatile week, the stock market ended Friday on a meteoric high, and indicators point toward continued bullish behavior for Monday when the market opens.
The stock market was positively impacted by new tariff decisions issued by Donald Trump that exempted smartphones, computers, and a variety of other technological devices from his tariffs. The Nasdaq breathed a sigh of relief, with that tech heavy stock index shooting up 2.06% before the trading session closed off on Friday.
There have been serious concerns in recent weeks how the latest tariffs would affect new tech releases, like the Nintendo Switch 2 as well as fluctuating tech stocks like Apple (AAPL) and Nvidia (NVDA). In premarket trading, Nvidia shot up 6.40%, though the value could flatten out a bit later today. Apple stock was likewise up 6.46% Friday morning. These key stocks have the highest market capitalization of any stocks and help to drive the market.
Dampers on Market Movement
There may be new information coming out of China in regards to tariff action. The country has continually hit back against the United States in a trade war that has seen each country exchange tit for tat. Investors are also dealing with plenty of confusion generated by quickly changing tariff policies. How each new decision affects the market is going to take time to be processed, and the market is in a fragile state that causes quick, unpredictable shifts.
Despite the upward momentum of the stock indices right now, with the Nasdaq up more than 2% and the Dow climbing 1.56%, we could see a drop before the end of trading on Monday.
Earnings season is starting, and the market uncertainty is sure to affect the outlook for many major companies as they share their earnings reports. Goldman Sachs Group is releasing its report on Monday. On Tuesday, Johnson & Johnson, Bank of America, and Citigroup will all be revealing their earnings. It is very possible that we will see some very conservative expectations for the coming quarter as businesses try to predict how changing tariffs and monetary policies will affect them.
