World’s Richest Man Wants No Tariffs Between U.S. and Europe
The world’s richest man, Elon Musk, expressed his hope for trade freedom between the U.S. and Europe just days after President Donald Trump announced tariffs on trading partners.
Speaking via video link at a congress of Italy’s right-wing co-ruling League Party in Florence, Elon Musk, who has advised Trump on reducing unnecessary public spending, stated,
“I hope it’s agreed that Europe and the United States should move to a zero-tariff situation at the end of the day, creating a free trade zone between Europe and North America.”
Italy, which currently has a significant trade surplus with the United States, will face a general tariff of 20 percent along with other EU nations under Trump’s newly unveiled plans.
In an interview with League leader Matteo Salvini, Musk, who has consistently supported right-wing parties across Europe, also expressed his desire for increased mobility between the US and Europe. He added, “It has been my advice to the president that if people want to work in North America or Europe, they should be allowed to do so.”
Musk has previously aligned himself with Giorgia Meloni, the right-wing Prime Minister of Italy, her Brothers of Italy party, and Salvini’s League Party. Both parties advocate a hard-right platform that includes tax cuts, law enforcement, and measures to combat illegal immigration.
