Cathie Wood, founder of Ark Investment Management, has trimmed her position in Meta Platforms Inc. for the first time in nearly a year. Her flagship fund, the Ark Innovation ETF, sold 12,595 shares of the company on March 17 and an additional 2,160 shares the following day, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

This move signals a shift in strategy for Ark, which held over 460,000 Meta shares as of December and had been steadily increasing its position throughout 2024. The sale comes amid a broader downturn in big tech stocks, commonly referred to as the “Magnificent Seven,” which have lost momentum in recent months.

Tech Sell-Off Weighs on Wall Street

Wood’s partial exit from Meta coincides with the company’s stock turning negative for the year. Factors such as regulatory uncertainty in the U.S., advancements in artificial intelligence from Chinese startup DeepSeek, and ongoing trade tensions with China have pressured the sector.

The Bloomberg Magnificent 7 Total Return Index, which tracks Meta, Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Amazon, Tesla, and Alphabet, has declined 16% in 2025. Goldman Sachs recently lowered its outlook for the S&P 500, warning that weakness in these tech giants could weigh on the broader market.

Wood’s New Bet: Tesla and Crypto

As she reduces her exposure to Meta, Wood is increasing her positions in Tesla and crypto-related companies like Coinbase and Robinhood. In an interview with Bloomberg TV, she stated that she is “taking advantage of this period of risk aversion” to strengthen her portfolio in disruptive assets.

With this strategy, Wood aims to capitalize on market volatility, doubling down on sectors with high long-term growth potential.
