Business Leaders Speak out on Trump Win
When Donald Trump won the US presidential election on Wednesday, the country’s biggest business leaders had a lot to say. His administration is likely to have a huge impact of the economy.
Elon Musk has been one of Trump’s most vocal supporters, and as the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, he has a vested interest in how Trump will impact businesses. Musk celebrated the victory, of course, and he said that Trump has been given a crystal clear mandate for change. He believes that this election is so important it could directly affect the fate of Western civilization.
Mark Cuban used to own the Dallas Mavericks, and he currently co-hosts Shark Tank. He expected a victory for Trump and said on X that Trump “won fair and square.” Though he publicly supported Harris for President, Cuban congratulated the new President.
Mark Zuckerberg, the Meta CEO, shared his congratulations as well “on a decisive victory.” He talked about great opportunities to come for America. Zuckerberg may be facing retaliation from the new President, as Trump swore to jail the tech mogul if he was reelected. Trump has repeatedly called out Zuckerberg since he lost the previous election.
Business is Booming
Already, the stock market is having a huge reaction to Trump’s reelection. The stock indices are all up in a major way, with the Dow Jones gaining more than 1,500 points on Wednesday which resulted in a gain of 3.57%. The S&P 500 was up by 2.53%, and the Nasdaq climbed 2.95%.
These were record highs for the stock indices, and since the market opened on Thursday, the market has cooled slightly. The gains are still there, but much of the market is flat compared to Wednesday. This indicates a settling down of the market and likelihood that we will not see continuing skyrocketing gains.
The market jumped in anticipation of what Trump would do, recognizing the potential of his effect on the business world. Now, once Trump starts to put some new regulations in effect, perhaps give some tax breaks to corporations, and pull back on government restrictions, we may see the stock market react positively again. We expect to see all of these things happen in the near future, and Trump will likely focus on the economy in a big way as he starts to make some changes.
