The Scam Unfolded: Fake Token Promotion
October 29th Ayrey’s hacked X account promoted a new meme token “Infinite Backrooms (IB)” claiming it was a legit investment opportunity. The post showed the token’s contract address and within minutes the token’s market cap went to $25 million. The rush was fueled by Ayrey’s credibility as many users trusted Truth Terminal’s history of good content on AI and digital insights.
But flags started to appear. According to Bubblemaps the hacker bought 12.5% of the 1 billion IB tokens for $38,000 just before the public announcement. Minutes later they liquidated their position making a profit of over $560,000 from an initial investment. Within 45 minutes they sold all their tokens and IB’s market cap went to zero and Ayrey’s followers lost a lot of money.
Aftermath and Community Response
Ayrey set up a temporary burner account to inform his followers about the hack. He said his original Truth Terminal wallet was secured with a hardware key and shared a video to prove his identity to regain their trust. But despite his efforts his original Truth Terminal account is still compromised and the hacker is posting suspicious content that is not his usual tone and style.
The hacked account is now promoting another token “Printil Sol” and is asking followers to share their Solana wallet addresses for a fair launch and airdrop. This has raised concerns as followers are now hesitant to share any sensitive information to these suspicious posts.
The incident has sparked a lot of speculation in the online community with some followers linking the hack to memecoin promoter Sahil Arora. But that’s unverified and the investigation is still ongoing.
