Lactaid Milk Recall after Allergen Found

HP Hood LLC is recalling a number of different Lactaid brand milk products. The parent company said that allergens were discovered in trace amounts in these products.

The Food and Drug Administration requires that even trace amounts of allergens need to be declared on any products that contain them. In the case of these Lactaid items, that would be miniscule amounts of almond, which the label did not divulge. Now, HP Hood LLC is having to recall numerous products that contain the allergen.

The recall Is not nationwide but comes down to just five SKUs of 96-counce packages. These allergens could affect those with tree nut allergies, and the recall is taking place in 27 US states.

Here is the full list of affected states:

Alabama

Colorado

Connecticut

Florida

Georgia

Iowa

Illinois

Indiana

Kansas

Kentucky

Louisiana

Maryland

Michigan

Minnesota

Missouri

Mississippi

North Carolina

Nebraska

What the Recall Means for HP Hood

The recall was entirely voluntary, meaning that the Lactaid parent company discovered the problem on their own and issued the recall to protect themselves. These products a rent dangerous except to those who have tree nut allergies. So, if you have Lactaid products in your home already and no nut allergies, you will not be affected by the recall. Those who do have a nut allergy or who are concerned about the recall can take their Lactaid products back to the store they purchased them from for a refund, even if the product has been partially consumed.

Lactaid makes dairy products that are lactose free, and if anyone who has a nut allergy were to consume one of their products, the results could be disastrous. In some cases, the effects may be life threatening. No one has reported any illness or ill effects from the products so far.

HP Hood LLC is not listed on any of the major stock indices, and we do not expect the effects of this recall to be significantly impactful to the company or to the wider stock market.
