Pantera Capital Seeks $1 Billion for New Crypto Fund, Makes Blockchain Gaming Bet

Pantera Capital, a leading cryptocurrency investment firm, is looking to raise a massive $1 billion for a new fund offering exposure to a broad spectrum of blockchain assets.

Pantera Fund V: A One-Stop Shop for Crypto Investors

Scheduled to launch in April 2025, Pantera Fund V will function as an “all-in-one” fund, encompassing investments across various blockchain asset classes. This represents a shift from Pantera’s existing, more specialized funds focused on specific areas like Bitcoin or early-stage tokens.

The new fund caters to qualified investors with a minimum investment threshold of $1 million. The first closing is set for April 1, 2025, with limited partners needing to contribute a minimum of $25 million according to a recent Bloomberg report.

Investment Focus and Industry Landscape

Pantera Fund V will invest in a variety of assets, including startup equity, early-stage tokens, and liquid tokens. This comprehensive approach reflects Pantera’s confidence in the future of blockchain technology and its diverse applications.

With a target raise of $1 billion, Pantera Capital’s new fund could be the largest fundraising in the cryptocurrency industry since May 2022. Back then, Andreessen Horowitz, a Silicon Valley venture capital giant, secured a record-breaking $4.5 billion for its crypto-focused fund.

Pantera’s move, alongside talks of a potential $850 million raise by VC firm Paradigm for a new crypto fund, suggests a potential return of institutional capital to the cryptocurrency sector following a market rebound in 2023.

Recent Activities: InfiniGods Investment and Solana Token Purchase

While seeking substantial funds for its new venture, Pantera has also been actively deploying capital. The firm recently:

  • Led the $8 million Series A funding round for InfiniGods, a web3 gaming platform.
  • Participated in the auction of discounted Solana tokens sold by the administrators of bankrupt crypto exchange FTX.

These actions highlight Pantera’s bullishness on specific segments of the blockchain industry, particularly web3 gaming and potentially undervalued assets like Solana.

Pantera Capital: A Major Player in the Crypto Space

Pantera Capital’s new fund and recent investments solidify its position as a key player in the cryptocurrency and blockchain landscape. The firm’s willingness to invest heavily in the sector reflects its long-term belief in the transformative potential of blockchain technology.
