GameStop’s NFT Marketplace Gets Ready For The Next Step

Looks like GameStop wants to expand its footprint in the world of NFTs, inviting applications from content creators to contribute to its marketplace. Interested users can sign to become NFT creators via an online form, with the option available to both individual creators as well as companies in this space.

The form asks interested parties if they would be willing to collaborate with GameStop in creating NFTs. This could indicate a far more selective process in adding NFTs to its marketplace, instead of being an open platform where anyone can mint digital collectibles.

GameStop has spent considerable time in developing its very own NFT marketplace, advertising openings for related roles since April 2021. The company undertook another round of hiring starting in October this year as well.

Since then, however, the website has been updated and now invites possible collaborators instead of hiring employees. It looks like GameStop’s NFT marketplace is ready to move into the next phase of development as it gets ready to welcome content creators to contribute to the platform.

Crypto experts indicate the possibility that the marketplace could run on a Layer 2 network, based on observations from GitHub code. However, no further confirmation on these plans have emerged from the company so far. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what the company behind the meme stock phenomenon of 2021 has in store.
