Britain is hoping to finalize a trade deal with Australia within six months of leaving the European Union. These comments were made by British Trade Minister Liz Truss, who is on a visit across Australia, New Zealand and Japan to come up with trade agreements which will be implemented after Brexit.

While addressing journalists in Canberra, Truss expressed optimism in a free trade agreement between Britain and Australia, adding “The reason that I have chosen to make Australia one of the first countries I have visited as trade secretary is because it is an absolute priority to get on with this trade deal”.

According to data from the Australian government, the trade relationship between the two nations is worth at least £14.60 billion. Australian Trade Minister Simon Birmingham also hoped that a trade deal with Britain could be finalized soon, as it could increase market access to export more agricultural products and give a boost to this sector in Australia.
