After Truce With China, Trump to Announce Tariffs on EU Goods Next?
Trump may have called for a truce in the trade war between US and China, but he hasn’t given up on his trade disputes with other nations yet. On Monday, US President Donald Trump turned his attention back to the EU and threatened to impose tariffs on $4 billion of additional goods over the aircraft subsidies issue.
The US Trade Representative announced a list of additional imports from the EU, including olives, Italian cheese and Scotch whisky, on which the US government could soon impose more tariffs on. This would be in addition to the tariffs announced on $21 billion worth of EU goods back in April 2019.
As the trade dispute between the EU and the US rages on for over 15 years before the WTO, both sides have threatened to impose tariffs on billions of dollars worth trade between them over aircraft subsidies offered by each other to Airbus and Boeing respectively.
The USTR has announced that it could decide on these new tariffs during the next hearing scheduled for August 5.
