China threatens to Fight Back over U.S Trade Tariffs
China's foreign ministry reaffirmed Wednesday that Beijing will take "resolute and forceful" steps to safeguard its interests after 104 percent net total tariffs on Chinese imports

China’s foreign ministry reaffirmed Wednesday that Beijing will take “resolute and forceful” steps to safeguard its interests after 104 percent net total tariffs on Chinese imports into the United States.
Lin Jian, China’s foreign ministry spokesman, said, “The United States should demonstrate an attitude of equality, respect, and mutual benefit if it genuinely wants to resolve the problem through dialogue and negotiation.”
In a separate official white paper published Thursday by the State Council Information Office, the Chinese government stated, “China will resolutely counter and fight the US to the end if the US insists on further escalating its economic and trade restrictions.”
Tariffs are a tool that the US uses to pursue its self-serving interests and apply tremendous pressure. In the white paper, Beijing claimed that this constituted economic bullying, protectionism, and unilateralism.
Additionally, the Chinese government stated that increasing tariffs would not benefit the U.S. Instead, it would cause significant financial market volatility, escalating inflationary pressures and threatening American industries.
However, Beijing expressed its hope that America would “meet half-way” and promptly lift the unilateral trade restrictions while reaffirming its willingness to cooperate, manage differences, and improve communication.
