Good Friday Market Closures

If you plan to trade currencies on Good Friday, watch out for wide bid/ask spreads and choppy price action in your favorite pairs.

labor day

Tomorrow, 19 April 2019, marks the beginning of Easter weekend and observance of the Good Friday holiday. All major U.S. exchanges will be closed for business, bringing us a relatively quiet day in the financial world. Stocks and commodity futures will be off the table, but forex pairs and cryptocurrencies will remain available for active trading.

Good Friday Trading Hours

Here is a look at the markets and closures for the upcoming Easter weekend:

Market                                                        Good Friday            Easter Monday

New York Stock Exchange                             Closed                          Open

Chicago Mercantile Exchange                       Closed                          Open

Forex                                                                  Open                            Open

Cryptocurrencies                                             Open                             Open

Also, it is worth noting that all major European stock exchanges will be closed on both Friday and next Monday in observance of the Easter holiday.

Market Wrap

It has been an interesting day on Wall Street. Extremely robust U.S. Retail Sales (March) figures and release of the Mueller Report have brought whipsaw action to the indices. WTI crude oil is quiet and GOLD is still searching for a short-term bottom.

One of the highlights of today’s action has been the performance of the Greenback. Big gains vs the Swiss franc and Euro have been primary catalysts for a large rally in the USD Index. At this point, the bulls are in control of June USD Index futures and rates are likely to close just off of yearly highs above 97.000.

Looking forward, forex liquidity is expected to be light during Friday’s U.S. session. It goes without saying, but if you plan to trade currencies on Good Friday, watch out for wide bid/ask spreads and choppy price action in your favorite pairs.
