Cryptocurrency Becomes The Most Viewed Topic on Reddit in 2021
Here’s further proof of just how popular cryptocurrencies were in 2021 – according to Reddit, it was the most viewed topic of the year, soaring past other hot topics, including gaming, sports and weddings. Crypto was one of the most trending terms used across the platform, featuring more than 6.6 million times through 2021.
Another surprising insight Reddit revealed is how Dogecoin was the most popular crypto viewed on its website. It takes the lead among the most viewed crypto subreddits, followed by r/superstonk, r/cryptocurrency, r/amcstock and finally, r/bitcoin.
The subreddit r/superstonk garnered the maximum growth, transforming itself from being a leading source of information on the traditional equity market to adding trending topics, including GameStop’s NFT marketplace, China’s ban on cryptocurrencies and even updates about Citadel’s CEO, Ken Griffin.
That the crypto movement is well and truly here is also evident from another leading subreddit r/wallstreetbets opening up the floor to allow its 11 million plus members to start discussing cryptocurrencies. The subreddit’s acceptance pf cryptocurrencies as an asset class was further cemented when it hosted the “to the Moon NFT party” during the recently concluded Art Basel in Miami Beach.
Home to over 500 communities dedicated to cryptocurrencies, Reddit has lone enjoyed active conversations and engagements on the topic over the past several years. However, it was only in 2021 that the crypto market shot into becoming among the top trending topics on the platform, directly to become the lead in this area.
